This is such a great lesson not only for dealing with editors but for life in general. Unless the communication is in-person (where you get full communication including non-verbal) a lot of information gets lost and the more impersonal, the more is lost. Email is VERY impersonal and it's easy to make all kinds of assumptions. So yeah, good reminder for me that it's usually a good idea when something feels "off," to follow up even when I worry that I'm bugging the other person or being "needy."
And I think for sure there is a needy and bothersome way to contact someone! But yes, you're right, if it feels off, something is probably going wrong.
