Everything you said is true.

I think it comes down to an honest evaluation of your relationship with social media and finding a way to make it work to your benefit. That could mean deleting all accounts. Or it means you use it in a way to build an engaged audience or simply get baking tips and dog videos. Or both. But the outrage machine is completely optional. This was a nice reminder video, thank you.

And I think social media conditions us to think that we're unreliable sources of truth, so we're like, "well, everyone else is doing it, I guess I should too?" whether that means being on social media or deleting accounts. But there's probably a middle ground that is particular to each of us, and I'm ready for some revolution where we all now start listening to ourselves.

I just deactivated my Twitter account the other day, and it felt great. I should have done that years ago. I still use Facebook and Instagram, but a couple of times in recent years, I've gone a full month without using any social media -- and it was refreshing.

It's SO refreshing. I've deactivated my Facebook and occasionally reactivate it for FB Marketplace, and my instant reaction is such revulsion. It might just be the way my Facebook feed shakes out, but it's all terrible. I still have Twitter and Instagram, but I barely look at them anymore, and I'm loving that.
