I'm struggling to write something clever in response to your normal wonderful Friday post but here's the only thing I can think of: I saw a fox cross the highway on my way to work yesterday. We don't normally see a lot of foxes outside of the wild. It was looking kind of scruffy. So hopefully this comment is an even trade of sharing. :)
I'm now imagining that Scruffy Highway Fox was on its way to work. Semi-related: did you know that foxes, when walking back and forth through snow, will step back into their own paw prints to confuse any animal that might be following them? Now that I've written it out, this feels very much like a fake fact. Wait. Hang on. Ok, I have no idea. Did I make this up? All I'm finding now is stuff about how foxes walk in a dignified straight line, and dogs zig zag all over the place like drunk clowns, and that's how to tell the difference between fox tracks and dog facts. Maybe this fox snow print fact is from another timeline I was living in.
Seriously. I'm in deep. GO FOXES! (You know I'm Big Fox's pawn when I find a website that says "in deep snow, a fox track just looks like a hole punched in the snow" and I think that's fascinating.)
Julie, I love this intentional look at the seasons--and the unique opportunities each affords! I will definitely be thinking more about this, now! 🤔
Unrelated--or maybe related because I'm am certain I'll be thinking about the seasonality ideas you shared later--I thought of you three separate times yesterday! Which, even for a bigtime Julie fan, was putting more than a big toe across the "freaky" line! 😂 The first was when I got a Cel-Ray with lunch. (Natch. Yay--and yum!) The second was when I was doing some coursework for a SA course that Carter Higgins is teaching (she was saying all sorts of smart/interesting things, and I kept thinking, 'Aww, this is why she's Julie F's BFF!' 😊), and the third time was when I was chatting with an agent we both know (👀) about having a "home" editor--or whatever you might call a situation where one particular editor edits a majority of your books and I instantly thought of you again. Anyhow! That is to say, thank you for all you share. 🥰 You are the best! And also, you are very effective at creating 'mindworms' (or whatever the mental equivalent of earworms are), which I mean as a compliment even if it doesn't sound that way.
I bet that class Carter is teaching is SO GOOD. She is super wise. I am so lucky to have her on speed dial. If speed dial is still a thing.
I think I have four home editors now. At a certain point it just became "editors." I do love working with the same editors multiple times, and developing a relationship.
FOUR home editors!! <daydreams, then snaps out of it> That's so awesome, Julie! :)
Re: Carter's class, we are doing the prep work this week but our first live class is Monday. I'm psyched! Also, I can dive back into your revision class, too! :) <makes awkward fist pumping moves>
Hi Julie! I also bought too many radishes at the farmer’s market last week and made roasted radishes for the first time. It was super easy and delicious! Here’s a link:
I'm assuming you knew you were getting radishes at least. I can't believe I've lived this long without ever roasting a radish! I'll roast any vegetable. It just never occurred to me.
Ha! Yes, mine were clearly radishes. But by the time I remembered them, the greens were past their prime. I’m going to try it with the greens next time. With you on the roasting love. Happy Summer (People)!
Austin Kleon has some ideas for summertime in his post today too https://open.substack.com/pub/austinkleon/p/summer-unschooling?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android

Clearly the Pro Fox lobby is doing its magic on you!

Three-Time Thursday! Or something.

Fist pumping is ALWAYS awkward.
Love these summer vibes! Yay for your MG and paddleboarding too
I am very "yay for my MG" while also being like "shh shh don't say anything, you might scare it."
Hahaha I totally relate to that

I would like to think that if mine had come with greens attached I would have known what they were.
